Any facility that markets food for consumption in the US must renew its Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration every other even-numbered year, and renewal for 2018 must be carried out between 1 October and 31 December 2018 on the FDA website. Renewal is required even if nothing has changed about the facility .
Mandatory biennial renewals were introduced following problems with out of date information on food facilities, sometimes resulting in wasted resources being used to inspect facilities that were no longer in use. Enforcing renewals ensures that the FDA has up to date information on all US food facilities.
Any US food facility which does not renew its registration during the biennial registration period will be cancelled by the FDA.
