RASFF Annual Report 2016

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) have recently released their preliminary annual report for 2016, detailing the number and types of alerts and notifications through the year. Below you will find our key insights from the report:

  • Compared to 2015, the number of alert notifications rose by 9% to 821.  These relate to products on the market where there may be a serious health risk
  • As in previous years, Italy issued the most original notifications (417) in 2016
  • Pathogenic micro-organisms were the cause of almost 30% of the alerts
  • The food category with the most alerts was “fruits and vegetables” (100) closely followed by “fish and fish products” (98)
